Good Times at The 2013 SLOBC Wildflower Ride TCP Mechanic's Booth

Pro Photograper Barry J. Lewis shot these great pics. of TCP at the 2013 SLOBC Wildflower Ride.  BarryJLewis.com
Ride photos are also available through Photo Krazy

Thank you SLOBC (SLOBC Membership Benefitsfor the opportunity to serve as a mechanic volunteer.  I had a great time and fixed a flood of bikes.  Most interesting repairs were a snapped seat rail and a broken spoke (repaired with Fiber Fix Spoke); as well as loose spokes, a broken cleat, lost cleat screws, and the usual shift and brake issues galore.  I really look forward to and enjoy working the Wildflower and Lighthouse every year.  It's one of my favorite things. Thank you again SLOBC. -TCP

Thank you North County Chain Gang Bike MS Team for the privilege of wearing your colors at all my volunteer events!  My Chain Gang Team Jersey and Team Tech Shirt are by far the most comfortable shirts I own! Made by ATAC they are lightweight, highly cooling, flexible, sun blocking and look sharp.  raising funds to wipe out Multiple Sclerosis and give support to local residents living with MS.

Biking Santa Margarita HWY 58 is in SERIOUS Jeopardy. Please watch video and let your voice be heard.

Forward From CCCMB:
We received this from a road cyclist who asked that we pass it on.  It is for those of you who have an interest in a road bike issue near Santa Margarita.  The video is well done.
If you are moved to take some action here is their request:

" If you can, come to the Draft Environmental Impact Report Workshop @ Santa Margarita Elementary School Auditorium next Thursday,  April 25 @ 6:30pm.  Also, follow our website margaritaproud.com and our Margarita Proud facebook page.  Another site with current information and an interactive format, Noquarryon58 should be up by the weekend (or early next week) online and on Facebook.  We need all the support we can get, we're getting run down, but folks are starting to rally and help.
Thanks
Greg

  • Can large trucks with trailers navigate the many dangerous curves on Hwy. 58 without the results off-tracking creating safety hazards?
According to Caltrans, "an advisory system was created because Caltrans is prohibited from restricting the KPRA on these routes. A truck with a KPRA longer than that posted may not be able to stay in its lane. Although California Legal trucks may legally travel on advisory routes, the driver is still legally responsible for unsafe offtracking, such as crossing the centerline or driving on shoulders, curbs and sidewalks." Link to source of this information      Link to Mathematical method for determining off-tracking

  • Is there a plan for large trucks to enter and exit the tight quarry site?  Will excess truck traffic use Parkhill Rd as a turnaround?
  • Will excess truck traffic be present in the town of Santa Margarita while waiting to be radioed in to the quarry?
  • Will creating an endless truck depot amount to the de-facto industrialization of the rural character of Santa Margarita?
  • Is there any monitoring and/or enforcement planned on a truck limit?
  • Will there be monitoring and/or enforcement when gravel trucks shortcut through residential neighborhoods in Santa Margarita?
  • Are the 30-50 truck trips a day that already exist from an existing adjacent trucking facility going to be factored into the baseline for the  total number of trips being studied?
  • What responsibility will the county accept for property damages, or fatalities caused by the failure to properly study the traffic impacts on an already very dangerous route?
  • 65'-72'  long double gravel trucks navigating onto El Camino Real make a Rail Road crossing each trip cycle. Not enough space is available (sign indicates 50') for stopping between the tracks and El Camino Real.
